Background
The Dell Precision 5530 is a high-performance laptop released by Dell in 2018. The Precision 5530 was a machine designed for a heavy workload, while surprisingly remaining lightweight, making it a fast and reliable mobile workstation for business professionals and consumers alike.
With a starting price of around $1,513, that could quickly climb to more that $3,000+, the Dell Precision 5530 was a rather expensive machine. The laptop shipped with a 15.6-inch display with options for 4K touch or 1080p standard. Most models of the 5530 were powered by an Intel Xeon 6-core processor, but there were also variants with 8th generation Intel Core processors. The Dell Precision 5530 had integrated Intel UHD graphics but also came with a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P-series card. With that being said, one could expect the anticipated workload for the Dell Precision 5530 to be very intensive and resource-hungry!
The main competitors of the Dell Precision 5530 were HP's ZBook 15 G4 and the ThinkPad P51 made by Lenovo. But with its thinner and quicker build, the Precision was likely preferred. But even internally within Dell, the Precision 5530 was often compared to Dell's XPS-series of laptops. Check out this this review from Notebook Check for a more in-depth comparison.
The Dell Precision 5530 held a good track record, with almost no major recalls or issues. The camera placement was seen to be an issue for some, but besides that, there was nothing inherently wrong with the camera itself. The Precision 5530 does contain relatively powerful hardware, so users could expect it to also run hot.
The Precision 5530 was later succeeded by the Precision 5570 and is currently no longer sold by Dell.
Identification
The Dell Precision 5530, not to be confused with the Dell Precision 5530 2-in-1, can be identified from its close relative by observing the design of the hinges. The Precision 5530 2-in-1 has an opening between where the top and bottom case meet, while the standard Precision 5530 does not. Additionally, the standard 5530 does not include a stylus. One distinct feature of the Dell Precision 5530 is the placement of the single webcam. It rests just below the Dell logo on the bezel. Aside from that, it is recommended to check the bottom of the machine where you will see a hinged compartment with valuable information for that system.
