Random Vertical Lines after LCD Replacment

I am repairing an iPhone 6 that I recently got. I plugged the screen into the connector and booted up the phone. The phone buzzed and the back light of the screen was on but there were random colored lines on the display. Every time I put the phone in standby mode and turn it back on, there is different set of colors. I tried this with the old screen and the same thing happens. Is this a result of a broken logic board? If it isn't, what do you think it could be?

EDIT: Now the display wont turn on. The phone just buzzes continuously when it is plugged into a charger.

You either got oil on the connector of the motherboard or on both of the screen connectors. If there are no serious issues, you probably just need to clean the oil from your fingers off the connectors with a micro fiber cloth. You can also try to disconnect and reconnect a few times.

I did that and it fixed the random color issue, but now the phone turns on and nothing shows up on the screen. The phone vibrates every few seconds while its plugged in. I've looked around and other forums say that the LCD screen is probably dead. Is this correct or did I just do something wrong cleaning it with the microfiber cloth?

No, the back light never turns on. I think the phone is on because if i plug it in, iTunes recognizes the phone and the phone will vibrate. Now the phone just vibrates every few seconds.

Hello Micahball,

By the symptoms you describe you may have one of several issues. Shine a flashlight into the screen and see if your able to see an image. If you can and the backlight is indeed out then you may be looking at a board level repair or a bad screen. The backlight filter could have blown if you disconnected the screen before disconnecting the battery. If there is no image displayed on the screen at all I would revisit the connectors. Look closely at the cable and on the board connectors and be certain they are undamaged and perfectly clean. Use 90% or better alcohol and a qtip to clean dirt and oils and allow to dry thoroughly before reconnecting. If needed you can also try another screen or the original.

Sadly, this didn't work with either screens The same problem occurs. The phone start buzzing randomly every few seconds. I'm starting to think that the problem is with a bad FCP connector on the logic board. I have some experience with soldering but I don't want to solder unless I have to. Is there anything else I could try?

Are you saying that you should remove the screen before removing the battery @holger ?

When working on any electronic device it is always good practice to disconnect power from that device @tragedon . The same is true for iphones, always disconnect the battery before removing the screen.

Not that I can think of @pitchfork263. Sounds like a board level repair. Either connector or BL filter.

The screen connectors are very prone to bending. Check if they are bent and gently straighten them out. Also reconnect all other cables. If certain cables aren't fully seated it might cause the symptoms you mention.
