Hello Micahball,
-By the symptoms you describe you may have one of several issues. Shine a flashlight into the screen and see if your able to see an image. If you can and the backlight is indeed out then you may be looking at a board level repair or a bad screen. The backlight filter could have blown if you disconnected the screen disconnecting the battery first. If there is no image displayed on the screen at all I would revisit the connectors. Look closely at the cable and on the board connectors and be certain they are undamaged and perfectly clean. Use 90% or better alcohol and a qtip to clean dirt and oils and allow to dry thoroughly before reconnecting. If needed you can also try another screen or the original.
