Asus Chromebook C200MA-DS01 Troubleshooting

Chromebook will not take any input.

If the Chromebook is not responding to any inputs, first try leaving the Chromebook plugged in and charging for one to two hours then powering on. If this does not work try power cycling the Chromebook. In order to do this, unplug the Chromebook from the power adapter, and hold the power button for one minute. Then try to power on the Chromebook. If this still does not work try the following:

1. Disconnect Chromebook from the power adapter.

2. Disconnect the battery, for help on doing this follow this guide: Battery Removal. Note: the battery does not need to be fully removed, just the white cable needs to be disconnected.

3. Hold the power button for one minute

4. Reconnect the battery and close Chromebook (simply follow the guide's steps backwards)

5. Plug in and power on

If the above steps do not work, there might be a faulty battery (see battery is not charging section).

If the battery is known to be functional, the problem may be the motherboard, follow this guide: Motherboard Replacement to replace it.

The Chromebook is plugged in, but does not seem to be responding.

If the Chromebook does not charge, it may be due to dust or debris in the charging port. Gently blow into the charging port to remove some loose debris that may be stopping the battery from charging. If this does not work the issue may be the charging chord or the battery (see Faulty Charging Chord and Faulty Battery). If the problem persists, consider replacing the charging port. There is a chance that either the charging cord being used, or the outlet that it is plugged into are not working properly. Try plugging the Chromebook into a different outlet, or an outlet that is known to be working. When the charger is plugged in properly and attached to the Chromebook, there should be a green light showing on the “brick” in the middle of the charging cord. If there is not then the charging cord may be broken.

A faulty battery means there will be no lights showing up on the Chromebook, and it will not turn on, even if it is plugged in. If this is the case, the battery may need to be replaced, for more help on replacing the battery, follow this guide: Battery Removal.

Issues connecting to a wireless network.

If the Chromebook is in a room/building where there is known to be wifi and it is not connecting, the wifi setting may be turned off. To check, click on account picture and a setting for network connection will show. If the setting is off, click on the switch and available networks would show up.

The Asus Chromebook comes with a wifi chip that allows it to connect to wifi. If this chip is not working properly or broken, than the Chromebook will be unable to connect to wifi. If this is the case, the wifi chip may need to be replaced. For help on replacing this chip, follow this guide:

Chromebook screen is limited to nonexistent

Look at the screen closely and inspect it for any physical damage such as black spots or cracks. If there is damage, the entire display will have to be replaced. For help on replacing the screen, follow this guide: Screen Replacement

The screen is not displaying colors properly

Try restarting the Chromebook, if the problem goes away it may be due to the screen overheating.

Speakers are not working properly

To fix this problem, simply find the icon on the keyboard that looks like a little speaker with an ‘x’ in front of it and press that, or turn the volume up.

If the volume is all the way up on the Chromebook and there is still no sound coming out, than the speakers are likely broken. For help on replacing these speakers, follow this guide: Speaker Replaement

The mouse is not moving when dragging fingers across the touchpad

Try tapping the esc key several times then testing the touchpad. If that does not work try drumrolling your fingers across the touchpad. If that does not work, try restarting the computer. If the touchpad still does not work then it may be faulty (see Faulty Touchpad).

In order for the Asus Chromebook C200 touchpad to work properly, it needs to be in direct contact with a finger or fingers. If this is the case and the mouse is still not moving across the screen, the touchpad may need to be replaced. To replace the touchpad, follow this guide: Touchpad Replacement.

A USB drive is plugged into the correct port, but the files cannot be accessed/the drive does not show up on the Chromebook.

First attempt plugging your USB drive into a working port on the Chromebook or on another device. If it still cannot be accessed, then the USB drive is bad.

Consider getting an air can and gently blowing loose debris in the USB port.
