Here is a link to a video which shows how to replace the battery cover door on a Coolpix L22. I realize that this is not your model but it should be close enough to your model to be of some help.
Here is a link to the ifixit Nikon Coolpix L26 Camera Back Cover Replacement guide which should also be of some help in the repair.

It looks to me like the material used in making the door is week and the spring pushing the batteries is way to strong. I've seen more of these cameras broke then I've seen working.
