Device is Overheating

The laptop feels hot to the touch.

The Vents or Fan are Dirty or Excessively Dusty

If you turn on the Dell Inspiron and it is hot to the touch, and you also feel little to no airflow coming from the fans. Clean out the vents and fan with a dust blower. Follow the guide to remove the back of the device to access the fan and remove the vent to clean it thoroughly.

Needs additional Cooling

If you can hear the fans spinning and you can feel airflow coming from the fans, but the fans aren't producing enough cold air to cool the device, try getting an external cooling pad for the Dell Inspiron 16-7610.

Faulty Fan

If you don't feel any airflow coming out of the laptop, the fan is most likely broken or faulty. To check if the fans are working, remove the back cover. Turn the power on and check if the fans are spinning. If the fans are not spinning, you will likely need to replace the fan assembly.

Dell Inspiron not turning on

Your laptop won't turn on despite your battery being fully charged.

The Laptop Needs a Hard Reset

If you see a black screen after trying to turn on the Dell Inspiron and you don't see the logo for your operating system come up, you can try doing a hard reset.

1) Disconnect all peripheral devices such as USB drives, printers, etc..

2) Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power.

3) Connect the AC adapter and battery.

4) Turn on the computer.

This usually fixes most issues and releases the residual energy left in the device that could be the cause of the issue.

Faulty Battery

If you press the power button on the Dell Inspiron and you don't hear the fans spinning or the LEDs from the device turn on, first make sure that the battery is charged. If this doesn't work, you might have a faulty battery. This usually is the case when the battery is old and can't hold a charge. One way we can check if the battery is the issue is by putting in a known working battery into the Dell Inspiron and checking if the device will turn on and boot. If the device boots, then we recommend replacing the battery.

Loose Display connector

When you turn on the device and you don't see the screen turn on, but you can hear the fans spinning and the LEDs on the device turn on, the issue could be related to the LCD display cable. One way to check if the screen is the issue is by getting a sperate screen and connecting it to the Dell Inspiron and seeing if the new display works. The next troubleshooting step you can try is checking that the Display connector is properly connected.

Biometric device not picking up your fingerprint

Fingerprint sensor not registering your touch.

Missing Biometric Service Device

If you turn on the Dell Inspiron and you see that fingerprint sensor isn't recognizing your fingerprint and logging you in, go into your fingerprint settings, click on fingerprint recognition, and if you're getting the message, "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with windows Hello Fingerprint", then the drivers for the Fingerprint scanner are the issue. Follow the instructions below to Install a new driver.

Fingerprint Scanner is Faulty

If replacing the fingerprint recognition driver wasn't the issue causing the Fingerprint scanner from working, you should replace the fingerprint scanner itself.

Touchpad not working

The touchpad doesn't your touch and therefore is inoperable.

Touchpad Drivers Out of Date

If you don't see the cursor moving smoothly but instead jumping and skipping when using the touchpad, the issue could be a faulty touchpad driver. Plug in a new mouse and hit Windows key+W and click on device manager. Try checking if the touchpad needs an update and if there is a new update or the drivers are out of date follow this guide so that we can replace the drivers. Check with Dell for any recent updates.

Touchpad is disabled

If you spot the cursor responding when you boot the device, check if the touchpad will work in the BIOS. Restart the Dell Inspiron and go into the BIOS menu by pressing on F2 or DEL key when the Dell logo pops up. When you're in the BIOS menu and the touchpad is working and you're able to move the cursor around, the issue is that the touchpad isn't enabled.

Touchpad isn't grounded

If you are experiencing any drifting or moving without moving your finger on the touchpad, the issue could be that the touchpad isn't grounded properly. This fix is a little unorthodox and the reason behind this problem is yet to be pinpointed. Many users believe that the problem behind the courser moving on its own is due to the touchpad not being grounded and has built up too much electricity in the touchpad.

Touchpad is Faulty

If you notice that the touchpad isn't responding at all, and the cursor isn't moving, try seeing if the issue is the touchpad. One way we could check if the touchpad is the issue is by booting up the BIOS by resetting the Dell Inspiron and once you see the Dell logo, hit either F2 or the DEL key until you see the BIOS. Once you're in the BIOS, try using the touchpad and see if the touchpad works in the BIOS menu. If the touchpad does not work while in BIOS, try following this guide to replace the touchpad.

Keyboard not working

The keyboard isn't responding to your input.

Keyboard is dirty

If you feel that the keys on your keyboard are sticky when typing and you can see debris inside the keyboard the issue is most likely that your keyboard is dirty and needs to be cleaned. Turn the Dell Inspiron off and get a clean cloth with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, wet the clean cloth with the isopropyl alcohol and begin cleaning the sticky keys on the keyboard. If you feel that some keys are stickier than others, we recommend targeting those keys first. Next get an air duster and begin blowing out the debris stuck between the keys.

Keyboard Drivers Are out of Date

If you hear 6 beeps when booting the Dell Inspiron, certain keys work while others don't, and wrong characters are being displayed, then the keyboards drivers are the issue. Go into device manager on your Dell Inspiron and locate the keyboard drivers. Check if the drivers are either out of date or faulty. You may need to update the drivers.
