Connected but not getting tracked by base station

One day I noticed my controller would occasionally stop getting tracked by the base station and my hand gets stuck in the air in game. Steam Vr said it was still connected.

So I looked some things up and opened it up and unplugged and re-plugged in stuff, I’m pretty sure I put everything back but still had the same result in it being connected but not tracked.

It’s been awhile since I last tried fixing it but now been around longer so maybe there’s a new fix out there.

Controller is not tracked by one of the base station. One of the 2 lasers of this base station is hard to see or flashing.

Is there any DIY repair for the base stations?

In this case the laser diode needs replacing. Unfortunately we don't know an off the shelf replacement for these.

Most common cause for the controller to stop tracking or have intermittent tracking is the two ribbon cables from the sensor array that connects to the top of the mainboard back out due to use or hitting walls.

Disassemble the controller and reseat these cables and tracking should return.

I was having the same issue and this tutorial was really great at fixing it https://imgur.com/a/hKeB4

need a Torx T3, (T4/T5) personally I used a T4 but everyone says T5

and a 00 Philips head screwdriver. recommend some form of prying devices and some precision tweezers to reconnect the A5 connector

it is possible yours is still connected just loose, mine was fully disconnected.

I have followed this guide exactly as shown, the two connections that are usually unplugged/loose was fully connected, I disconnected this and reconnected it still having the same issue. Note I completely took a part the saucer to examine if any sensors were damaged and everything looks as should.

I had a similar issue with mine. It was caused by intermittent interruptions from my USB drivers. Try updating your USB drivers. Also, if your motherboard is older and doesn’t have function well with 3.0, try plugging it into a 2.0 port. I know 3.0 is suggested, but plugging it into 2.0 may fix your issue if that’s what is causing the problem.
