Clean under trackpad buttons

How can I get under the trackpad buttons (Not the ones attached to the keyboard) and clean them out?

I found a drop of honey right on the right-side button and some seeped in underneath. (Which makes no sense, I didn’t eat any honey yesterday and it was fine last night???)

Is there a way I can lift out the trackpad button to clean underneath?

this might he kind of cheesy but, there is probably a guide on ifixit that will show you how to take the buttons off.

Hi @roachrex ,

Just curious as to how you know that it is honey and not just some other sticky substance deposited there. You don’t have any bees around the place do you, leaving you a calling card? Just kidding ;-)

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop.

Scroll to p.22 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the palmrest assembly.

The trackpad is part of the palmrest assembly.

Once you have removed the palmrest assembly you should have access to the trackpad.

I do not know if the buttons are an integral part of the trackpad assembly or not, but at least with it accessible you may be able to determine this.

If you have to replace the trackpad for whatever reason, searching online for Dell Precision 7710 trackpad part seems to indicate that it comes as part of the palmrest assembly and doesn’t appear to be available as a separate part. It was only a quick search and this may be wrong. You may have better luck in finding it as a separate part if it is deemed necessary.
