You need to have it fit the enclosure... 2.5X up to 9.5mm thick. Some like 72KRPM drives they're a bit faster, but also more expensive.

You might not need a new drive, hold "Option" when booting, and this will bring up a boot menu, and the choice to select a startup disk, so you may be able to select your hard drive, and tell it to boot from that.

I have just installed a new HDD in one of these for a friend of mine.
A 500GB Western Digital I bought from ebuyer.com for £60.00.
But try what Chris Green suggests just in case you don't need one.
