Hinge is Missing a Screw

The left hinge connecting the screen with the base is missing a connector (screw?) and opening and/or closing the screen pries up the top of the keyboard. There is a hole in the bottom of the base under the hinge which is missing whatever it was that made the connection between the base/keyboard and the screen. I need to know what it is that is missing and where I can find a replacement part. Thanks!.

Hi,

Here is a link to the service manual. Scroll to p.57, I think that shows the screws you are talking about.

Thanks for the tip. The location I am missing a part for is best seen on p.70 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual referenced. It appears to be their part #6 on that page and called a Kensington Slot. Can you please tell me what it is and how I can find a replacement? I sure appreciate your help!

Hi,

A Kensington Security slot allows you, with the appropriate attachment, to chain your laptop to a desk for example. It is a security feature on the better laptops.

Here is another link which may explain better.

Somehow I don't think, in your case, that this is the something that is missing. The Kensington lock plugs into the slot. Never had a laptop with one myself, but I don't think that it would have much to do with your problem. I think the slot is just that , a slot if you wish to utilize it or not is up to you.

Hi

Found this link, which states how to fix your problem. Apparently is it a common one with your model laptop as well as some others. https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupportmacg...

It is a well known design flaw. Do a bit of Google searching, even Lenovo's own forums have several threads on it. Mine was replaced after 30 months, the replacement has just failed after 22 months. This product does not last.

I called Lenovo tech support, which gave me the part number for the screw. I was transferred to parts, where I was told it was out of stock for at least 3 more weeks, and it'd cost $11.98. For *one* tiny screw. That probably fell out when I sent it in for repair last year and it was 4 months before they sent it back. Once I'm sure the correct screw is included in a stupid bulk bag for $10 and arrive in 4 days, I'll get it. Then, I'll never buy a Levono laptop again!!!!
