Background
The T14 Gen 3 is a highly capable Windows laptop marketed primarily toward business and professional users. It features a sleek and portable design, but with a diverse array of I/O ports and a relatively high level of serviceability.
Virtually all common repairs are possible with basic Phillips screwdrivers and pry tools. The keyboard replacement procedure stands out as one of the easiest and most accessible of any modern laptop, and the back cover opens easily for access to other components. Battery and storage repairs are simple and straightforward.
The biggest repairability drawbacks include the soldered DDR4 memory (although one SODIMM slot is included for expansion purposes), and I/O ports that are mostly soldered to the motherboard. Overall, the T14 Gen 3 earns a commendable 7/10 on iFixit's official laptop repairability index.
Identification
The T14 Gen 3 is most readily identified by the printed labeling on the base cover, which includes the model name and number. Its physical characteristics include a 14" 16:10 IPS display with slightly thinner bezels than on the preceding model, and of course the bright red TrackPoint (pointing stick) on the keyboard that has long been characteristic of ThinkPads. The display swings open to a maximum angle of 180 degrees.
The left side of the laptop includes an ethernet jack, dual USB-C ports, an HDMI port, a USB-A (3.2 Gen 1) port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack; the right side includes a Kensington security-lock slot, a SmartCard reader, and one additional USB-A port. An optional SIM card slot is located on the back edge near the left-side display hinge.
