Battery Won't Fully Charge

Battery will only charge to 60%.

Charging percentage start and stop points can be controlled through the power management software. This is feature can help prolong battery life by reducing unnecessary charging of the battery.

To check these settings, click the "Settings" button. Un-check "Optimize For Battery Run time" under "Battery Health" and the problem will be resolved. “Optimize For Battery Run time" is to protect the battery and extend the lifespan of the battery. Because the lifespan of one battery is related to its charging circle, the power charging will automatically cut off to protect the battery when the power reaches to a certain amount.

If the issue persists, try reinstalling the power management software. Uninstall Lenovo energy management. Re-install the battery then charge the battery completely. Restart the laptop and install Lenovo energy management software again.

Laptop Won’t Turn On

Attempts to turn on the device fail.

Check the AC Adapter

To check the AC adapter, unplug the AC adapter cable from the computer. Measure the output voltage at the plug of the AC adapter cable. The center pin of the plug should read +20V relative to the outer metal casing of the plug. Measured voltage on the outside casing should be 0V. If the voltage is not correct, replace the AC adapter. If the voltage is acceptable, you must replace the system board.

Checking Operational Charging

To check whether the battery charges properly during operation, use a discharged battery pack or a battery pack that has less than 50% of the total power remaining when installed in the computer.

If the battery status indicator or icon does not light on remove the battery pack and let it return to room temperature. Reinstall the battery pack. If the charge indicator or icon is still off, replace the battery pack. If the charge indicator still does not light on, replace the system board.

Checking the battery pack

Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains. Under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life.

To check your battery, move your cursor to the Power Meter icon in the icon tray of the Windows Taskbar and wait for a moment (but do not click it), and the percentage of battery power remaining is displayed.

To get detailed information about the battery, double-click the Power Meter icon. Note: If the battery pack becomes hot, it may not be able to be charged. Remove it from the computer and leave it at room temperature for a while. After it cools down, reinstall and recharge it.

Blank Screen After Power On

The screen stays black after the device powers on.

Boot Into Safe Mode

Affected ThinkPad systems that were updated to Microsoft Windows 8.1 prior to October 28, 2013 may no longer boot. Microsoft Windows 8.1 will hang at a black screen with a visible mouse pointer. Although the mouse pointer can be moved around the screen, it is not possible to log into the system.

The Lenovo logo should appear on the screen followed by “Please Wait”. Release Shift and F8 at this time. You should now see a Recovery screen. In case you only see a blank screen and not the Recovery screen, retry the previous steps.

From the Recovery screen, click on See advanced repair options. Click on Troubleshoot. Click on Advanced Options. Click on Startup Settings. Click on Restart. The PC will now reboot to the Startup Settings screen. Press 4 to “Enable Safe Mode” as prompted.

The PC will now boot to Safe Mode. Enter your user name and password as prompted, to log into Safe Mode. Open the Start screen. Type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter to start Device Manager. Double-click on Display Adapters to expand the Display Adapters category. Right-click on the NVIDIA NVS device, and choose “Uninstall” from the menu. At the “Confirm Device Uninstall” prompt, check the box “Delete the driver software for this device” and then click on OK. Restart the PC.

The PC will now boot to Windows normally. Enter your user name and password as prompted, to log into your PC. Make sure your internet connection is working, then run Windows Update. Choose to install all available updates.

If the above steps did not correct the issue there might be an issue with the LCD screen; please visit the nearest authorized service center.

Hi….I am having an issue with the lists of things…such as volume, if I click on the volume, it will continue to go up all on its own, or go down all on its own. If I go to my pictures, I can look at them as thumbnails, but as soon as I click on 1 picture to bring it up, it will go all through the pics until it reaches the last one. If I have to choose something in a drop down, like right clicking , the list will not stay so I can choose one. Plus my screen goes over to the left a little bit and some pages are hard to see everything unless I drop the zoom down to about 70%. This is getting really annoying as I want to print pictures of my grand children and I cant. Please help
