Son of a gun. the aspire V5-571's been siting for a few years doing no good -caught my eye and thought "spare hard drive", I had my uses. At least I felt it prudent enough to search for a cause/fix and when I found I wasn't alone in it not starting up (fact lost in the masses), mine worked for a few hours. Then nothing. I did the power button and F12 knowing full well the bios wasn't involved on just a wild chance... Reading your suggestion was met with wow that was a stretch, yet thought !&&* at least give it a try, it makes sense, and step one of any project. Tested fine voltage wise 19 VDC, plugged it in; pulled the battery and the freaking thing started up. %#*@ near tripped over the dog it surprised me so. For what it's worth I have the complete shop manuals for a 1973 Chevy Silverado 1500. It says to remove the drain plug in the engine block. My son has the emissions book which would show it's position.

There is an epoxy that's been around a long time and well respected due to it's abilities to permanently repair broken metals, after it hardens it's even machinable. "J-B Weld" can most likely repair the gear for good. Comes down to how well can you shape/machine the sprocket to match the others. It's available almost anywhere, auto shops for sure.

All computers have what are called beep codes, I hear one beep and know I'm good to go. I can give you a link for your beep codes http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/e... You need to count them, there is a delay between each error beep so you know the count. Normally you will hear the beeps just once (they don't repeat) - Go figure the link claims Dell just continues beeping on..., so start it up and count em. Continued beeping could just as easily be a high CPU alarm but it sounds like you have that covered.

Press the left windows key and the pause/break key at the same time, select device manager and disable one of the video devices. In the tab that will open for each device is a tab called "details" searching those settings you can find the video device that's causing the problems, click on "Device description", a good start would be checking the "problem code", zeros are a good thing.

As a desperate attempt you can search for your phone on cyanogenmod.org. They create custom ROMS for rooted phones (legal), there are several ways to boot a phone, one being into recovery mode.

Rather not have to take it apart? I just posted another way to charge the phone without the USB port. How to replace charge / USB port? It doesn't use the USB port but the docking ports on it's side. Update (04/18/2016): MyTouch 4G cell phone not charging [Solved] My MyTouch Cell phone's USB port became unusable for almost anything, move the USB cable around a bit and it might start charging (for just awhile), it was worn out from use. The MyTouch 4G has three contacts on it's left side; made for a docking station nobody ever took the time to manufacture. The top contact is a positive (5vdc) contact, the bottom a negative (5vdc); the middle contact I don't know what it does but it shows 2.5 volts connected to the top contact. I found what was what by measuring each contact while it being charged. As the picture supplied shows I took a USB cable using only the Red (top contact) and Black (Ground) wires. I was a regular on the UseNet group Alt.cellular and other cell phone groups, almost every cell phone that got wet were pretty much history. I went swimming with my MyTouch 4G, you could see the water level through the screen - did the suggested procedure: Took it apart, dried it out as well as possible, wrapped it in toilet paper, then buried it half way in a Quaker oat container that was full of rice and left it for a month (purchased a new phone in fact due to alt.cellular.). The battery unfoiled itself due to the water after a few months, a year later I needed a phone and bought a new battery for the MyTouch and hoped a lot. It's been working just fine for 6 months now. The USB port was worn and I did have to devise a way to recharge it (posted it on this site: MyTouch 4G cell phone not charging [Solved]). Being some 3 years ago I imagine you just purchased another phone...
