Hi! My name is Rose Mary Borges Pereira, and I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island. I’m majoring in Political Science because I care a lot about how governments work and how they affect people, especially in terms of human rights and helping those in need. Growing up in Senegal showed me how important these things are, and I want to use my education to make a difference.

I dream of becoming an international lawyer one day. My goal is to work with immigrants and refugees and help protect their rights. In 20 years, I see myself as a mom, a wife, and a successful lawyer, making a positive impact in the world.

Some of the skills I’ve picked up along the way include writing and editing, public speaking, and data analysis. I’m also fluent in English, French, and Wolof, which helps me understand different perspectives. I’ve worked on several projects, including a research paper about globalization’s effect on Africa and a paper about Russian foreign policy. I’ve also created presentations about immigration and refugees, which I’m very proud of.

In my free time, I enjoy dancing, writing, studying the Bible, and watching TV shows. I also love swimming. That is actually my favorite thing to do. I used to swim since I was 4 and at a national competition level. I had to stop when I moved to the USA because I had a lot going on, I had to learn the languages and adapt myself to the culture.

This project will help me improve my writing and editing skills, which are important for my future career as a lawyer. I’m always looking for ways to get better at what I do!

Here are a few fun facts about me: I love chocolate and Senegalese food. I like making funny titles for my papers and assignments, and I’ve lived in three countries and speak three languages.
