Factory Reset with No Password (First gen iPod touch)

Hello all,

I recently found my old Ipod Touch 1st Gen from my high school days. It's password locked, and obviously 10+ years later I've forgotten the password and locked the device.

I tried to restore the ipod using previously downloaded firmware, both 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 versions. When I attempt the restore, I get the error:

"This iPod was previously in DFU mode, but restarted and is no longer in DFU mode. To restore this iPod from DFU mode, disconnect it and place it in DFU mode again"

No matter how many times I restart the device (turned off, held home button, plugged in directly to itunes) it gives me the same error.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get past this error?

Hi, have you tried using 3UTools?

It’s unusual for it to be doing that.

It’s not unusual for a successful recovery to still have user lock on it, which means you either have to try and sign in and say forgot password but you would need email account (of the time) access to reset password.

If it only has PIN code lock then a successful DFU restore will remove the code.

So having a shot at it with 3UTools would be worth a go.

Hope this helps

I have! When I attempted 3UTools, it got to 6% and then froze and never moved forward no matter what type of recovery I tried to run.

I'm sure that it could be a hardware issue, this device is from when the 1st gen was released. Do you know of any way to push 3U into completing the recovery?

I also tried downloading an old version of itunes and using an old IPSW and it did act like it was going to reset, but it eventually gave me an unknown error (1161, i think).

No sorry, I’m afraid I don’t - the errors that are referenced are at :

11% CPU

13% Connecting port

20% Nand

Can’t find any info about the stall at 6%.

Can you check battery voltage? It may not be able to provide enough output to maintain the restore process.
