Hello! My name is Erik Bird, and I am a junior Biomedical Engineering Major and on the Track and Field Team at the University of Rhode Island.
After college, I want to work with prosthetics or in medical sales. I have always thought prosthetics were an interesting technology and hope to see additional advancements in a field that has already had so many recently.
Being an engineer, I have designed and built a lot of things over the past few years. In high school, I had a year-long project in which I had to create new designs for an object that had been around for a long time. The item I ended up choosing was a doorstop. I created 20 designs and ultimately created three prototypes before settling on one. Aside from that project, I have created a few different heart rate monitors using Arduino.
I have also done a few at-home projects to repair some old skis, skateboards, and bikes. I love to be able to get some physical work in while repairing things, and creating many small tasks to complete one after the other leaves a great feeling of accomplishment and productivity.
