Hello everyone, my name is Aidan Lear and I am a third-year mechanical engineering major at Cuesta College. I have chosen the path of mechanical engineering because it deals with hands-on work. I am looking forward to future projects in IFIXIT as it has a lot of these applied aspects. I plan to specialize in mechatronics, a field that concentrates on math and physics, subjects I am very interested in and like to dedicate much of my free time to. I have even won physics student of the year awards at Cuesta for my time dedicated to physics.
Outside the classroom, I am very involved in one of my schools engineering clubs, the SAMPE club. In this club, we work to optimize different I Beams to withstand immense loads, while still staying light weight. Our primary projects focus on carbon fiber I beams. In the last year, I have been fortunate enough to conduct undergraduate research on these beams and present my research at the 2024 NCUR event in Long Beach.
Over the past couple years, I have been slowly working on my industry experience. As of right now, I am currently a project manager and project engineer for the insulation division of the Cal Poly library renovation. I am very thankful for this position because not only does it expose me to future engineering work, but I have also gotten an idea of the communication side of the industry. Aside from this job, I tutor physics and math as well.
While I enjoy all of the previously listed work, I also like to enjoy myself in more relaxing ways. I love to disc golf and skim board. Come weekends, I'll always either find myself on the course or at the beach. Boxing and MMA has also become a hobby as mine as of recently as I've found it's a healthy way to blow off steam.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me!
