Hello! My name is Mary Marr and I am currently a third year studying biochemical engineering at the University of California, Davis. What initially drew me to this major was the way that it was able to connect engineering to the health and medical field, and as I have progressed in my major, I have discovered its true versatility which is one of the reasons I love it. I am actively exploring some of the applications of my major to the health field through my involvement in a research group on campus aiming to study the fluid mechanics behind airborne disease spread. I am undecided on the type of job I would like to pursue after university, but I look forward to expanding my skillset and growing my engineering knowledge as I progress into my career.

Projects/Accomplishments
Intro To Chemical Engineering Laboratory Course
- Throughout the quarter my team worked to experiment with different methods of coffee roasting and grinding to find which roast and brew type would produce the best tasting cup of coffee that simultaneously used the least amount of energy to create.
- My team won the end of class coffee brewing competition for combined best tasting and most energy efficient cup of coffee.
Thermodynamics Course
- Investigated the feasibility of using manure-based biogas to power 100 homes in Davis during the summer in a team of four
- Calculated the cycle efficiency of using biogas to generate power, the amount of fuel needed to meet the power needs of the neighborhood (and how much manure that would directly require), and the costs associated with using manure-based biogas as a fuel source
- Researched the environmental impacts of biogas and how the implementation of infrastructure for such a fuel source would theoretically impact the community
