I bought a broken ipod off ebay and took off the brown clip (which by the way can only be done SAFELY by completely disassembling the entire device). Okay i lied a little bit. I first bought a broken ipod, but it was the wrong Model order (MA450TTY/A vs. the correct MA446LL/A. the former is TECHNICALLY consider a 5g, but is more of a 6g prototype.) (update: ok there is an identical brown retention clip inside ma450tty/a and the 6g, but they are a unforgiving B**** to open. check the ifixit guide for yourself) anyway my ipod works now and you, Neil (and Marc), are my personal hero btw, i could've bought the brown clip battery connector assembly by itself for like 5 bucks (http://www.shopsparts.com/ipod-video-5th-gen-logic-board-battery-connector-p-696.html), but it was located overseas and it would've cost 26 dollars in shipping just to get it in 2 to 6 days.
