- James Madison University
- Major— media arts and design- journalism and writing, rhetoric and technical communication- scientific and technical communication
- I chose the SMAD journalism major because I aspire to give voices to communities that may not have one. I appreciate journalism for evolving storytelling mediums. My dream is to become a features reporter.
- I chose the WRTC scientific and technical communication major because I think it’s important to diversify my writing skillset with technical writing experience. If reporting/digital producing doesn’t work out for me, I’d love to become a technical writer. It’s a skill needed in every field, especially with the rise of modern technologies.
- Aspirations— My dream is to become a features reporter and diversify newsrooms. I’m also interested in running social media accounts, marketing, analytics, online page design and other digital aspects of the journalism world.
- Skills— Adobe Creative Cloud, graphic design experience, AP style, writing and editing, meeting deadlines, photography, HTML and CSS, video/audio
- Projects/accomplishments— As the culture editor for JMU’s student-run newspaper The Breeze, I’m proud of the print paper that comes out every week. Each week, my co-editor and I design the culture pages. I’m also proud of each feature story I write for The Breeze. I’m currently working on my JMU Honors Capstone project. It’s a special section multimedia project about diversity on campus.
- Repair experience— My only repair experience is with sewing/clothing repair
- Accolades—
- Virginia Press Association: 2nd Place for Editorial Page Design
- Athlea L. Johnson Scholarship
- JB Hancock Scholarship for Writing and New Media
- President’s List of JMU for four semesters
- Groups/memberships—
- The Breeze: culture editor and reporter
- Kinetix Breakdance Crew: social media chair
- Hobbies— writing/editing/reporting, graphic design, breakdance, hand lettering, reading novels.
- How does this project relate to you?— I’d like to delve into the world of technical writing someday, so I believe this project is a solid start for me. With this project experience, I’ll be able to learn how the process works and whether or not I want to continue in the field.
- Any other fun facts you’d like to add?— I have five dogs: Chuck the corgi, Darla and Chelsea the labradors, Morrie the Yorkie and Gibbs the Cockapoo.
