I have delt with this problem with my sons ps4 1st Gen. After replacing the hard drive, applying fresh thermal paste, checking the power supply as well as factory resetting the system and installing a new operating system from Playstation.com it was still disconnecting and freezing. Turns out the wifi/bluetooth antenna was shot. Soldered in a new one. Problem resolved.
Check the out the main board output. If the control board is new your next stop is the main board. If the lights would come on when you open the door I would suggest a whole new door assembly since I don't think they sell the touch pad separately.
There is a switch located behind that vent. There is a possibility that by forcing it shut you threw the shaft that opens and closes the vent out of allignment with that switch. Or the motor to the vent has been damaged or the shaft it self broke. Can you here any kind of motor attempting to open the vent. Does the vent still open?
