Flash lifted but can't get the flash activated with the button

My excellent canon sx130 is lost the flash function.

Normally when flash was in upright position you could activate the flash by pressing the button to change flash mode from off, auto, or on.

Nothing happens now when the flash is lifted and the button is pressed.

Can somebody help please.

I would assume that the switch indicating the flash is in operating position is not working. How would that be fixed?
