First off the cable in question is the backlight which is a different cable than one you’ve indicated here. For most this is just not a feasible solution, that only leaves replacement of the full display assembly.

Sadly you missed the extended repair program where Apple was replacing some displays, Apple never acknowledged the 15” as having the same issue (which it did). They did in newer systems lengthen the cable a bit to remove the issue. But alas grit can also do you in as the grid would slowly erode the protective layers. This is still a problem in even the newest systems. This is mostly an issue in dry aired places where the grit is sharp and wind blown.
