You will of course have to totally disassemble the iPod. The dock connector is solder onto the board. You will have to do lots of soldering. You will have to un-solder two anchors and about 30 connections, they are very small and close to each other. So you have to take extra care not to shorten the pins out. After that you will have to resolder all those connections and the two anchors. Not an easy task, unless you are used to soldering small pieces.
