Chromebook refusing to exit sleep mode without hard reboot

My Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 13" Laptop occassionally refuses to exit sleep mode and requires me to do a hard reboot. Any idea why or what I could do to  repair it? Is it a hardware or software issue?
