Identification and Background
The Microsoft Surface is a tablet computer announced by Microsoft on June 18, 2012, and its Pro version was released February 9, 2013. The Surface shared its launch date with Windows 8, and serves as a hardware tie-in for promoting the new OS. The Surface Pro also features an Intel i5 core processor.
The Microsoft Surface line features a molded magnesium case called VaporMg, which is a combination molding technique and particle deposition process to create the desired finish on the exterior, as well as a built-in kickstand for pop up viewing.
The Surface is advertised with an optional magnetically attached keyboard, making it resemble a very thin netbook. The Surface has 5-point detection, while the Surface Pro has 10-point touch detection, with a digital pen and Wacom digitizing technology.
