How to remove a display that is partially stuck to motherboard side.

I was trying to remove the display of my iphone 12 mini with the iFixit kit, I managed to remove part of the display but there is still another part of it that is stuck to my motherboard. I know I need to get a new display but in the mean time does anyone have any idea how to remove the remaining part of the display?

Hi Caleb,

I've seen this quite a few times on iPhone X's, but this is my first on a 12.

The short story is most of the time this happens because the person doing the repair neglected to take out the Pentalobe screws before attempting to remove the display. In that case what happens is, with enough force, the frame separates from the LCD/OLED so you're left with the frame still mounted in the case and the display free - with no way to remount it, by the way. Well, maybe some industrial strength adhesive, I guess.

Anyway, your next step is to remove the Pentalobe screws, after which those two side frame pieces will pry out without too much effort. Take a look through some of the iPhone X questions on the subject and you'll get the idea of what you need to do.

Whether you removed the pentalobes or not you have simply removed the screen incorrectly. You’ve inserted the opening tool between the screen and frame and not between the frame and housing which is the correct way. You’ll need to insert the tool between the plastic frame and the alloy housing and work it round to release the adhesive. When it’s loose lift the frame up to the left then unscrew and remove any plates on the board and disconnect it. Then you’ll be able to unscrew the speaker assembly and the ambient light sensor from the top of the frame.
