Turning on problem. It self-starts on charger. Boot ONLY with Shift.

Hi,

When I connect the MagSafe charger to the laptop, it turns on by itself. As soon as the Apple logo appears with the loading bar, it turns off and not responding on power button only on MagSafe connection.

When I hold the shift key while powering up it goes into Safe Mode and the laptop doesn't turn off but I need to hold shift button pressed down, if I release the shift in a second the system will turn off again.

Recovery mode also turns off when the logo is loaded. Any idea? Thank you for your reply.

Update (09/01/2022)

I have the idea. Is it possible that Is power button still pressed? And that a reason why it always turn on and in second turn off and only way how to stop shut down is keeping pressed shift?

Because when I'm in the Safe mode and release shift key that show me screen for shutting down options (sleep, shut down, restart,...) And immediately shut down. And not responding startup like before for plug in MagSafe charger only when I disconnect the battery. How can i check it? Is any way?

When I disconnect keyboard while booting, the system works correctly (without keyboard).

Maybe new keyboard will fix it or is there any way to repair stuck power button on current keyboard? Button is not pressed down.

Sounds like a messed up keyboard! Did you have a liquid spill at some point?

You may also have a worn-out battery as well given the systems age. So your system is mostly dependent on the MagSafe charger so when you bump the system the power is disrupted.

Inspect the MagSafe charger cord and socket to make sure they are clean. Hopefully they aren't like this

Update (09/02/2022)

@jackun - Yes it dows sound like the keyboard is damaged. This series uses a unitized keyboard unlike the 15" models which used an independent blister switch as you can see here which sometimes is repairable on its own.
