How to replace the clock battery?

PowerShot G9X loses date/time each time you take the main battery out when the internal date battery has been depleted (maybe a CR1220?) Looking for instructions on where this battery is inside and how to replace it.

gnid @jayeff the battery is identical to a MS614. It is smaller than something like the CR1220 etc. Check the characteristics on here The Battery is readily available at online stores etc. Check this video on the disassembly of your camera.

Hi. The battery is located on the imaging/lens assembly. You have to take the camera apart. It's not that difficult if you know what you're doing - but keep track of where the screws go as there's different sizes and loads of them.

Please take a look at the pictures here. Remember that the replacement battery has to be rechargeable.

What is the type of the battery? I would prefer to source the battery before popping the G9X open.

Hi,

I couldn’t find the service manual for a G9 X but here’s the service manual for a G9 that may help.

Here’s an image from the manual showing the location of the backup battery. The Canon part number is WK1-5140-000 but searching online using the part number, indicates that it is no longer held in stock by various suppliers but can be ordered.

I assume that the battery will be the same for your model as it is a battery that is commonly used (according to the part number) in other Canon Powershot and IXUS models as well.

Maybe once you have accessed the battery, the markings on it will tell you what it is and that you can find it more easily.
