How to replace screen glass?

Hello. I have a TI 84 Plus CE that has just been sitting in my backpack for the last couple of months (in hindsight wasn’t my best idea.) I took it out of my pack one day and found out the screen was cracked (pic below.) Is there any guide to fix it? The panel itself is not broken but the glass separating them is. Thanks!

Hi, unfortunately, I don’t know of a place where you can buy just that part, however you can search for a dead TI 84 Plus CE on Ebay then use that calculator as a donor device.

Thankfully, removing the plastic cover isn’t very hard, the glue holding it on is pretty weak. You just need a suction cup and maybe a spudger (or thin flat head screwdriver).

  1. Take the suction cup and place it on the screen, try to avoid putting it over the cracks as that may mess it up.
  2. Then pull up on the suction cup. You don’t need to worry about damaging anything by pulling of the cover so you can be as forceful as you’d like. The cover should come right off.
  3. You can now take off the other calcualtors plastic cover and swap your calculator’s plastic cover with the donor calculator’s. At this step you have the option to replace the glue with something stronger so dust doesn’t get in the shell and on the LCD. Be sure not to get any glue on the LCD, that’s been a common mishap to others who have taken off the plastic cover! Carefully inspect the LCD to be sure it’s clean before putting the plastic cover back on.

It might help to apply minor heat to the donor in that case. In addition, removing the screen itself is probably another very good idea if you can manage it.

I'm even having trouble finding a parts unit since most of them are the standard B&W Plus if you look with as-is in the title. OP's best bet is a bad pixel one that's otherwise repairable if you find one with a good cover - total waste (at first)? Yes, but I legitimately can't find a CE that's a total bum to the point of being unrepairable because of the economics.

Ah, I was afraid it'd be a pain to find a broken one. I wouldn't suggest trying to remove the LCD itself since it's connected by only a small ribbon cable that'd be impossible to reach if disconnected without opening the calculator from the back.

The B&W is easy because it's seen 2 case styles (Base Plus and Silver), the parents usually buy that model for school shopping list satisfaction (price) and it's the most common EZ-Spot model (usually stolen by students). Good luck finding a CE; the CSE is probably easier to get ahold of broken. I'm searching with TI-84 as a general search and I seen no broken CE calculators.

The LCD is something I'd opt to remove but I also know the risks involved and how to do it right.
