Keeps turning off after battery replacement

Hi,

I ordered and installed an ifixit replacement battery without any problems. The macbook booted up fine but then the screen went black again. This keeps happening all the time now, sometimes during the bootup process, sometimes later, but it never ran for more than 2 minutes yet.

Is the battery the problem or rather the computer?

thanks for your help, guys !!

Sascha

Disconnect your new battery and put back the old one if still available or run without battery at all and soon you’ll know if it’s a battery or another kind of issue..

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I can't use the old battery anymore: it's swollen to much.

I had the wrong idea that it wouldn't run without a battery installed (maybe because the sticker on the battery said removing was forbidden ;-)).

The MacBook doesn't crash, when running without battery at all.

Now I'll try these points (https://ifixit-eu-en.helpscoutdocs.com/a...) and see what happens.

Is there a chance that charging helps although the battery showed 65% when I first installed it? Coconut Battery says everything is fine so far.

Well, now we know at least the Mac works fine without a battery..if all resets won't help, just contact iFixit after sales team and let them know about the issue, I'm sure they'll be helpful and get things sorted.

Does this happen when the MacBook battery is fully charged? Can you test and see if this happens while it’s just on the charger? Also what wattage charger are you using? (it’ll say on the charger).

Last resort contact iFixit for a replacement if this always happens when that battery is plugged in, you can always try the old battery as well and do some further testing.

Thank you! I appreciate your suggestions.

I connected the MacBook with the 85W charger immediately after installing the new battery. Here I noticed the other thing that made me suspicious: the battery LED on the side of the MacBook didn't show a blinking LED as a sign of charging. When it ran long enough to complete the booting process, the new battery showed 65% but did not charge.

Unfortunately I can't use the old battery anymore: it's swollen to much.

After taking the battery out and putting it back in again, it was now charging at last. I will see what happens when I have finished the steps recommended here (https://ifixit-eu-en.helpscoutdocs.com/a...)
