Background and Identification
The Honda Accord is a series of automobiles first manufactured by Honda in 1976 as a compact hatchback. The Honda Accord vehicle is best known for its four-door sedan version, which has been a top-selling vehicle in the United States since 1989. Vehicles with the Accord name often greatly differ in individual regions.
In 1982, the Honda Accord became the first car from a Japanese automaker to be manufactured in the United States. In 1989, the Accord lineup expanded to include coupe, sedan, and station wagon variants. In the late 1990s, the Accord had one basic platform with different bodies to compete in international markets. In the United States, the Accord was the best-selling Japanese car between 1982 and 1997 with approximately ten million vehicles sold. Car and Driver has named the Honda Accord as one of the ten best cars more times than any other model since 1983.
The first Honda Accord deviated from the Honda Civic design by expanding the size of the vehicle and increasing the fuel economy. Civic-derived components were often used in Honda Accord vehicles.
Honda vehicles are identified by the Honda emblem, which portrays an ‘H’ inside a soft-cornered rectangle. In the Americas, Honda Accord vehicles also include an emblem on the left side of the rear end of the car, which represents the name ‘Accord’ in capital letters. Honda Accord Hybrids also include a hybrid emblem on the right side of the rear end of the car, which portrays the word ‘hybrid’ in capital letters.
