Honeywell HY 254 TGT Troubleshooting
Model: HY-254-TGT
The fan is not turning on
Not plugged in properly
If the fan does not turn on, ensure the fan is plugged in properly.
Buttons and or remote not in working order
If no noise occurs, ensure both the remote and front panel do not start the fan. If only one does not function, please check the respective repair guide for the remote or front panel buttons. If neither the remote nor the front panel starts the fan, you may need to replace the motor assembly.
Obstructed fan blade
If the fan makes noise but no air moves, look at this guide to open the fan and remove any objects obstructing the fan blade.
The fan is not rotating or is rotating slowly
Obstructed fan blade
If the fan is not oscillating properly, the fan blades may have an object obstructing their motion. Follow this guide to remove the fan casing and ensure that nothing is in the way.
Faulty oscillation motor
If the fan is not oscillating properly and there are no objects obstructing it, you may need to replace the oscillation motor.
The front panel buttons do not respond
Stuck buttons
If the front panel buttons are not responding, the buttons are likely stuck, due to dirt that has gotten under them. View this guide to repair stuck buttons.
Broken buttons
The buttons themselves could also be broken. View this guide to repair or replace broken buttons.
The remote does not respond
No clear line of sight between the remote and the fan
Make sure that there is a clear line of sight between the IR blaster and IR receiver.
Batteries not in working order
If the remote does not turn on the fan, ensure the remote has functional batteries. If not, use this guide to replace them.
Faulty remote
If the remote is still not working, it may be faulty. You will have to take the remote apart and replace the circuit board, or just replace the entire remote.

Hi sir,
No power on the tower fan at all, the buttons on the front of the fan, are not stuck, and the remote control flashes okay. but the fan stopped working.
can you help

The tower squeals fan turns and air is moving. What can be done?
Sharon Score - Contestar
If something squeals that means there are surfaces rubbing against one another. Just listen closely to where the noise originates. Check all your easy-access screws and stuff and be sure everything you can easily reach is in good order.
If that doesn’t change anything then you may have some dust or something in between your fan housing and your center shaft…time to take it apart and clean where they touch.
Usually that’s it. Squeal free.

Fan started changing it's own settings at random and the only way to turn it off was to unplug it. After a few weeks of this, the fan now runs only on low speed and oscillates. The remote has no effect. The controls in top of the unit have no effect. Plug it in and it's on as described. Only way to turn it off is to unplug it. Seems like a problem on the logic board. Hopefully, I can find a replacement part.

I'm having the same problem Neil, now my remote works to oscillate & up /down speed but dosnt turn the fan on or off, is there any way to buy a new remote ?

I ended up purchasing a new fan. It seems that replacement parts are just not to be had. It's a shame, too. I hate the thought of the old fan ending up in a landfill somewhere when simply replacing the logic board would make the fan like new again. As of this writing, I still have the old fan… hoping replacement parts are available somewhere.

I had the same problem with my fan, but after fifteen minutes of solving the problem I discovered that the problems just appear when the remote is facing the fan. The remote seems to send random commands to the fan( happened to me probably after my cats inspected the remote a little bit too closely and tried to find out which sounds it makes when it falls to the ground) My solution was simply to take out the batteries of the remote. The fan is now working properly again. I hope this helps.

My fan won’t turn off, and it will only run at 1 speed no matter what setting it’s on

hi, did you manage to fix this issue? i have the same problem and i’m not sure but it seems like the power button is pushed in compared to the other buttons (unless it’s meant to be like that), so will take it apart tomorrow and see if it’s down to that. thanks

My speeds won’t work at all. I can turn them to different settings and it will run on that setting for a min then the lights just turn off. It still runs but the setting won’t stay lit?

I just bought the Honeywell Quiet Set 8-Speed Tower Fan Oscillating and doe some reason its starts rotating on it own. And also keeps turning off while on.
alb2003 - Contestar
This is the third time this has happened with these fans. For some reason it just stops working. Won’t turn on. Less than a year old. Buttons are not stuck and I assure you it’s plugged in. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing another one…

Honeywell usually a great name but this quietset fan is an absolute dud. Really need to give refunds for this piece of crap. 100 dollars down the tubes

Hi! I’ve tried to tackle fixing my Honeywell QuietSet standing fan. It lights up when plugged in but after pressing the buttons the fan itself will not turn. I took it apart and found that the fan needed to be lubricated. After a spray with WD-40 and some 3-in-1 oil, I managed to get the piece that the blades sit on able to rotate smoothly. However, when I plugged the fan in again and turned it on the motor will still not work/rotate. Is my next step to check the thermal wires? And if I find out this is the problem, is it worth fixing? Thanks, Michelle

Like Amy B, I find that settings 1-4 often do not work, unless I move up to a higher speed and then toggle it back to a lower speed. Even if I get that to work, often the fan will stop after a while, though it is still powered on and continues to oscillate. This has been its behavior since I bought it, just a few months ago.

The tower fan got moved from one apartment to another and is plugged in but after getting plugged in immediately had a red and yellow light and then turned on for a second and then stopped

I have had my fan for about 5 or so years. It had worked fine until recently. I keep my fan on through the night. One night I kept hearing a beeping and realized my fan was making this noise. I wont let me turn it to a different fan setting and when I shut it off, it turns right back on again. I figured its just the end of its life, but have noticed other people having the same issue. Is it a wiring issue?

Got one last fall and it was out of balance and shaking. Sent it back for a replacement. It seemed ok. I have been testing it from time to time in the wintertime and now it runs with an annoying whirring fan noise. It gets noisier the longer it runs most notably on slowest speed.
Ross Wright - Contestar
If the fan keeps working as in my last comment, I’ll use it in the living room in A/C season to force cool air down the hallway. The noise won’t be noticeable in my bedroom.

I bought this fan about a year ago .. I know that we've had a problem with a ghost in this place so its quite common I guess .. So my fan has taken Possession of this said ghost and will not stop turning on .. I turn it off, it desides its too hot so it turns itself on .. I turn it back off and it goes on and on … Has anyone that bought this brand of fan from Wallfart had this same problem ?? Its quite annoying ?

We bought this fan last summer and used two months.July and August then we stored it covered. Now this year we took it out and it worked twonnights before it just stopped. No lights, sound, movement. Shouldn’t this product last longer than 2 months use?

Hey, my fan works and goes up to about halfway but once it gets to the “relax” setting and up it shuts off. What can I do about it?
Patrick Y - Contestar
My light on the fan buttons wont stay on. Fan works
Karen Davis - Contestar
Fans work but remotes do not. Clear line of sight and changed batteries. Fans bought at different times but remotes will not work. How can both go bad at the same time with different usage and bought months apart. Both were working earlier in the day.
gkat019 - Contestar
I changed the fan speed from slow to medium on the remote. Now the fan only works on medium. The remote lights up but does not change the speed, turn on the light or allow any other function of the fan. It has only been up several months and has been used sparingly.
Very disappointing purchase

My quiet set tower fan turns on but no air comes out
Yolanda Gober - Contestar
If the fan is on for long periods of time, can the fan stop working? If so, is there a way that it can be fixed or is the motor just hot and needs to cool down?
