Canon PowerShot G11 Troubleshooting

No matter what you do, you can't get your camera to turn on.

If your camera will not turn on, check to see if the battery is properly inserted in the camera and charged. If the camera still wont turn on then the battery is defective and you will need to change out the battery. This could be simply from a defective battery from the factory, the battery can go bad over time or the battery receives physical damage then you will need to replace the battery with a new one.

The pictures in the camera are distorted or corrupted

If the camera consistently takes blurry or distorted pictures the optical assembly is not working properly. This could happen for a variety of reasons. If the camera is dropped or treated roughly this could cause the optical assembly to cause your camera to take blurry pictures. The best course of action is to simply replace the whole unit.

If the memory card is not working properly you should make sure the memory card is compatible with the camera. If the memory card is compatible then try a different memory card. If both memory cards do not work then the problem is with the camera.

There is Physical Damage to the Camera

The front case is damaged in some way. It has scratches or cracks. See our replacement guide to show how to replace it.

The rear case is damaged in some way. It has scratches or cracks. To replace it see our replacement guide.

The lens can be damaged from being dropped or abrasive material scratches the lens.

If the outside lens gets some scratches on it, then the scratches will cause the picture quality to be poor from showing up on your images. The best course of action would be to replace the outer lens.

If the Shutter will not open when the camera is on check first if you are in picture mode. If it still will not open then you will need to replace or clean the shutter as it may have something clogging it or it may just be broken. After inspecting the shutter to see if it is simple not being prevented from opening by being dirty, then replacing the shutter is the only course of action.

If your LCD screen is cracked or damaged in some way. It will not light up, or the image is distorted, or you have dead pixels the best course of action is to replace the LCD screen unit. Our replacement guide will show you how to replace the LCD screen in case of damage.

The dial or buttons to control the LCD screen is unresponsive or does not accept input. Our replacement guide will show you how to replace this part.

The top control dials are broken off or are unresponsive and do not accept input. Our replacement guide will show you how to change out this part.

The Flash Will Not Light When Taking a Picture

Check to see if your camera has flash turned off, this would be the most common issue with flash not going off when taking a picture.

If the flash bulb is dead and the camera does not flash when you are trying to use it, then the flash bulb needs to be replaced. The flash bulb is attached to a unit connected to a very strong capacitor and it could shock you if you attempt to replace it yourself.
