Why won’t my laptop turn on?

After the first two years, my laptop sometimes would just stay at low battery while charging. Since it is a gaming laptop, I would leave it plugged in most of the time. Only when I would use it without it being plugged in and then charge it, it would charge fully. Now it won’t even boot. Or start up. I tore off the back cover but the battery doesn’t look swollen or bad. I can’t really see the battery health because my Laptop won’t post. My power adapter is working and the pin inside barrel connector is not bent or corroded. I think the issue is either the female barrel connector in laptop or the battery. Can anyone help me determine which it is?

Hi @bradley39442

To at least get it to turn on, try a power refresh.

Disconnect the charger if connected and then open the laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard.

You don't have to remove the battery, just disconnect it.

Go to p.26 of the service manual to view the procedure for removing the battery.

Once the battery is disconnected, press and hold the laptop's Power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reconnect the battery and reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and check it is turns on.

You can always prove if the laptop's power port is OK, by disconnecting the charger and unplugging the battery cable from the motherboard and then removing (or just unplugging) the laptop's power adapter port (see p.39 in the manual linked above) and proving continuity of the wires between the port inputs to the outputs on the port's cable plug are OK by either using an Ohmmeter (without the charger plugged into the port) or a voltmeter (with the charger plugged into the port).
