Keyboard repeating keys and headphones having humming noise on my new

Recently, I built a new pc and everything has been working fine except for the keyboard randomly spamming keys in random intervals after input and also the headset making a constant hum while plugged in. These problems weren't present on my previous pc.

(going more in-depth about the keyboard is that it works fine most of the time but sometimes it randomly repeats a key after input and will only stop after I input another key. If I don't interrupt it, it repeats indefinitely)

 I plugged in my cousin's keyboard and the same issue still affected his keyboard so I know it isn't a problem with the keyboard itself. I've done constant searching, troubleshooting, reinstalling drivers, and even reinstalling Windows to no avail. No articles, videos, or forums on Google or youtube have helped.

 We've been thinking maybe that it's a motherboard issue and are considering replacing it as a last resort.

 If anybody has any advice, tips, feedback, or anything that would be helpful at this point, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for taking the trouble to list all the components. It helps us.

First recheck that all cables and components are connected correctly.

One thing to check is the possiblity of a short being causes by a loose screw, etc. Shut down computer and disconnect power and all cables from the system. Take both of the side panels off looking for anything that shouldn't be there. Lift the case up and give it a good shake listening for any rattling sound of a loose screw. If this is the problem you may be lucky and it will drop out on to the floor. Good luck.

On the otherhand it may just be a corrupted driver in Windows.

Take a look at the Device Manager. Type devmgmt.msc in Start Menu and click on click on it when it appears on the side menu.

Are any device showing a yellow exclamation mark (!). If yes uninstall and recan for Hardware changes. Windows will reinstall. O.K. now?

I’ve reinstalled my usb and keyboard drivers multiple times prior so I doubt it would be that. I also just checked device manager and there were no corrupted drivers.

I opened up my PC but there weren’t any loose cables and I couldn’t recognize any shorted cables.

Hi @Juexis, Sounds like you have been quite thorough. I forgot one obvious check - does the problem still happen in Safe Mode? If that fixes it then it is definitely a software or corrupted setting.

It seems like this has worked, activating safe mode doesn’t seem to provoke the issue when typing. What would be the next logical step to fix this?

A hum heard in the headphones is not a good sign.

Hum emanates either from the power supply or an earth connection where it shouldn't be.

Do you get a hum if you connect speakers to the rear audio port?

Are both the keyboard and the headset connected to the front panel connector USB and headphone jack or the rear ports or USB rear and headphone front?

If the keyboard is connected to the rear USB port, try connecting to a front USB port and check if that fixes the keyboard problem

If so I would check that the motherboard standoff screws are correctly placed and not shorting out the board especially if any are near the rear usb ports

@jayeff I’ve tested the keyboard in the front IO and the issue still persisted. Usually I use the keyboard in the rear IO and the headphones in the front IO.

I’ll check the motherboard standoff screws and the speakers when I get back tonight but I’m pretty sure the speakers don’t cause a hum noise (plugged into the back IO).

I’m also going to borrow a pair of headphones to see if the problem is just with that specific headset.

I will update you on my findings later tonight.
