Battery not quite fitting ….

Bought a replacement battery for my Spin 5, 13”.

Same battery number, was able to install and power up, charge and calibrate the battery.

Problem with the laptop not closing with the new battery installed. Only difference on the old and new battery are 2 small tabs on the lower side of the new battery, that seems to prevent the bottom cover from properly snapping together. Screws work but small bulges in the cover.

Wondering if I should cut off the extra tabs on the new battery so the bottom cover will snap properly into place? Bottom tabs don’t seem to secure the battery in any way.

Should just slide into place - like a socket. Take another look at instructions.

Can confirm, the battery is now being supplied with lower screw tabs that interfere with lid installation. The two center lower tabs are also now mid battery instead of lower battery edge, causing issues with fit against the bottom of the track pad when the battery pushes down closer to it.

Hi @aaronfixesstuff

Sounds like not the correct battery. I know you say "same battery nummber". Can you attach photos?

I didn't get a picture before I modified and closed the laptop up. The original battery was marked Acer AP1505L, the replacement just said AP1505L without the Acer marking. Battery came from an Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N, circa 2016.

The picture on this ebay listing looks like what come out of the laptop. Note the lack of the two screw tabs on the bottom.

If you look at the picture on ifixit, you can see the addition of two screw tabs on the bottom of the battery.

The two small alignment tabs in the bottom center have also changed. On the original, they are flush with the bottom of the battery and sit on cradles in the frame. In the new battery, they sit midway up and the battery itself has to act as the bearing surface.

Hi @aaronfixesstuff

So apart from those issues does the battery work O.K. and is it secure? Sounds like you should have taken it up with the IFIXIT Store in the first place. It would have been helpful if you had included the full laptop model nimber in your question. Is the Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N you mention above the correct model?

@aaronfixesstuff Out of curiosity, does it look like the frame can be removed? If so, seems like you can salvage the new battery by swapping the frames. I can't tell how it's attached to the battery cell from just pictures; it looks like there might be a couple of screws, but not sure.
