Left speaker driver is not working

Does anyone recommend disassembly of this device or can I send it back to Sony?

Same problem. Used these for years, and suddenly the left ear stopped working. Cut some card stock and stuck it in the left earcup. Worked like a charm. Saved an expensive piece of kit!

I found them to be quite easy to take apart with a bit of filling with a credit card similar to the newer xm4 disassembly guide. Sony WH-1000XM4 Battery Replacement - iFixit Repair Guide

I unscrewed the outer cover to inspect the main board and found no visual damage.

However upon adjusting the cable inside the ear cup and removing the protective tape in the central terminal I was magically able to get the left hand side working.

during this time I had the headphones powered off with music playing from my laptop through AUX.

So if anyone else has this issue I recommend disassembly to have a fiddle around with the internal speaker cable.

it works for a moment, but the second i try to put it back together the cable moves again and it isn't working anymore. any suggestion which cables are the ones that need to be fiddled around? if i knew that i could probably secure them somehow

I've just placed a strap of duct tape over the wires in the left ear cup, which seems to fix the issue

Which cables do I need to move around I've tried to no avail please help

I found that it has something to do with the driver on the left ear. It seems to be extremely sensitive to contact or pressure. When I had my headphones apart, tapping on the driver got it working. I was able to put my headphones back together, and listen to music, but the slightest bump cut the driver out again. Back to the workbench.

I had the same issue. For me, placing some thick paper on the circuit board did the trick permanently.

Yeah I think something like this would help stop the wires from shorting to the PCB.

Was a little sceptical at first but was so tired of having to hit the left speaker to make it work. Folded cardboard solution worked like a charm! Thanks!

THANK U SO MUCH FOR THE TIP. i bought the m3s 2020 with this issue outta the box, ive been hitting my left earcup since then just to get it to work every single time, i did everything, other pages suggested to remove the tape holding the wires inside, which i did and worked like a charm!! after a week exactly same issue back, recently where i accidently dropped the headphones a scary moment when i put them back on the left ear went off for good at least when in bluetooth mode, so today i searched again the internet i found again this topic which ive already came acrosss before but it didnt make sense to me to tape the wires back again!! i wanted to give it a try and move on.

i connected them to my phone turned the music on high volume of course the sound is available only on the right side, then i open the left side and applied pressure with my finger on the wires then the sound is back!!!!! i taped the wires to the board and added piece of thick cardboard on top. Thats it! thank you so much for the help again guys!

Hey there , I have the same issue: my left speaker isnt working anymore. In the past I could get it to work lightly hitting the outside of the left ear cup, but that does not work anymore. Connecting the cable does not change anything. I already opened the left side ear and had a play with the cables, to no avail. also there was no obvious damage visible. Anybody got an idea what I can do? Help appreciated :)

Hey Mister P,

try to lock the cables on the board with duct tape, this worked for me.

If connecting the AUX cable does not fix the issue it sounds like the speaker may have a wiring issue. Might be worth inspecting the PCB.

Hey there, I took the speakers apart and resoldered most connections on the PCB and on the speaker - with no avail. I also had music playing through them and fiddled with the cables, but nothing changed. Running out of options here i fear :( If anyone has more input I would appreciate that !
