How do I fix the broken display on my 60D?

Hello! Today when I tried using my Canon 60D I noticed the display was all purple. You could still distinguish a tiny bit of detail and its brightness changed with that of the scene. After a few restarts, however, the purple color went away but so did any other bit of detail. I can still notice the display is on, but there's simply no information on it. I also noticed there is more pressure needed to close the display than before (still not a lot, but around 2 times as much). Here's a video of what's happening: https://vimeo.com/506319268?ref=em-share. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Hi,

It appears as though the screen’s backlight is on but as you say there are no images.

Can you still take pictures OK?

I realize that you cannot see what you’re taking in the screen but try taking some pictures and downloading them to a computer.

If you get good pictures then the camera’s cmos sensor and motherboard are OK and it may be a loose LCD screen flex cable connection or a faulty screen.

If you can’t take any pictures or if you can but you only have black images then there may be a problem with the cmos sensor or the motherboard or both.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Canon EOS 60D guides that will help you to check the screen cable connection or to replace the screen if that is the problem.

Replacement LCD screens are available online. Just search for Canon EOS 60D LCD screen to get results for suppliers that suit you best.

Hello! Thanks for your answer! My camera can still take pictures and otherwise work just fine (save for the lcd of course). As for the repair guide, is this the one you are talking about: Canon EOS 60D Rear LCD Screen Replacement

I took out the lcd and put it back, also cleaning the contracts in the process and it still doesn't work. I did notice the gray wire had a small cut on it: http://imgur.com/a/TLSzMY4. Don't know if this actually means anything :/

Hi @Ovidiu Dascalu

Yes that's the screen I thought you meant.

I can't see the cut in the cable that you mentioned (maybe my eyes are no good - I'm old ;-) but if there is one then one broken wire might be enough to prevent the screen from working correctly.

The hard part might be finding a replacement screen cable
