Will this screen fit my MBP?

Hey,

I am wanting to upgrade my screen to the High-Resolution screen and I was wondering if the model LP154WE3-TLB1 will fit my current laptop.

Can someone please clarify that this will indeed work with and fit my laptop?

If not, which model will?

Thank you

It is hard to tell by the way you have asked your question. You have left out some very important information to be able to properly address your question. What is the exact model in your LCD?

Added the following in edit:

If you are wondering how to check the panel you can do two things:

1. System Preferences > Displays > Color > Color LCD > Open Profile > Line 17 (under "Model")

2. Issue the following command at a terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Please post your LCD model number in this tread so we can address the problem.

It appears that LCD should work in your Laptop. The LCD in question LP154WE3-TLB1 LG-Philips is the High Resolution option for the mid 2010 MacBook Pro. The Mid 2010 MBP and the Mid 2009 MBP use the same LVDS cable as can be seen here. The LCD in your laptop LTN154BT08 Samsung is a standard resolution screen that could also be found in the Mid 2010 as can be seen here

I mention the following because Apple is known to throttle everything down from the original manufactures specifications. Depending on what Apple has done with the BIOS in the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256 MB video chipset for the Mid 2009 MBP and the incorporated drivers you may or may not get the High Resolution the screen is capable of. If you install it and don't get the High Resolution I suggest you go to the Netkas forum and inquire about a fix.

I wasn't able to get your command to work properly as it was invalid syntax, but I was able to locate another to use. Here is the output:

LTN154BT08

Color LCD

Thanks

Oh, well have the same screen for my i5 and it looks perfectly fine, especially with the ability to have a larger resolution. Sucks that I won't be able to upgrade this one.. Is there anything I can do to get one to work?

I have done some more research on the compatibility of the 2 LCDs and have edited my answer to reflect that I have found they should be able to be interchanged. Please read my updated/edited answer.

Thank you so much! I plan on getting this rolled out within the following week if things go according to plan. I will keep you updated on my progress.

Normally you can buy the whole clamshell with the high resolution display/cables etc, i don't think this will work if you just replace the lcd panel

Just to add a note to this category of Display swap for anyone else who is wondering about compatibility:

I just swapped a MacBook Pro 15" late-2008

Glossy Screen Display Assembly

with a MacBook Pro 15" 2009

Anti-Glare Screen Display Assembly

So what I mean is, I have swapped the WHOLE top case Display assembly, and they match up in the following ways:

-----

Hinges = Perfect match

Cables = Perfect match

Webcam = Works

Display + Brightness Control = Works

Airport = Works

Resolution = Same as before 1440 x 900

(I am NOT using a high-res anti-glare, just a normal res anti-glare)

Bluetooth = CANT GET IT TO WORK

-----

The Display Assemblies are almost identical matches with the exception of the Bluetooth card.

It seems that Apple stored the bluetooth card for the Glossy / Glass screen MacBook Pro under the glass at the bottom of the display, however the Anti-glare screen has the bluetooth board attached to a cover near the display assembly hinge on the underneath of the laptop.

This bluetooth board cable runs into the normal Display / Backlight cable which plugs in fine to the logic-board, however the bluetooth board is attached to a cable cover which has different screw + position holes than the original 2008 MacBook Pro 15" case has, so it won't marry up.

I have simply re-used the original cable cover from when I swapped the Glass / Glossy screen over, and unscrewed the bluetooth board from this and taped it down to the DVD drive underside, but the Bluetooth does not work in OSX ?,

also, there is no antenna cable for it, so even if it did work, I expect that the reception might be very very poor.

- Hope this might help if people are reading this thread and wondering about the Glass to Anti-Glare Display Assembly swap?

I am attempting to get a 2009 (glossy) display into a 2008 macbook. This went fine for you, correct? I would prefer matte, but I got an insane deal on a glossy assembly

im facing a similar issue here.

I want to put an anti glare display assembly from a mid 2009 macbook pro 15" into my mid 2009 macbook pro with glossy display. The Anti Glare display assembly has an additional third plug that goes into a small unit on the bottom case, which i am missing on my mbp. Dont exactly know what its for, has anyone an idea if it will work without it?

okay, i happened to get a used matt display assembly, and tried if it would work, and it did.

Hope that sheds some light for other readers. The only thing thats not working now is the

bluetooth and wifi options. The small blue card is the bluetooth unit (and also the wifi unit?!)

in the glossy version it is built in the display assembly underneath the clutch cover, however on the matt version

it is placed on the bottom case and it also looks a bit different.

my question now, how to get wifi back to work? i dont mind the bluetooth but a laptop without wifi is practically useless :-/

i disassembled the old blue card from the broken glossy display:

but the connectors are a bit different, or do i need the bluetooth card for the matt version now?

does this even fix wifi?

hope someone can help.

option c would be to get an usb wifi card, something like:
