Why no cold water?

No matter what I turn the knob to, my machine washes and rinses with hot water only. No cold, no warm.

Hi ,

Have you verified that the cold water outlet tap to which the washing machine cold water hose is connected to, is turned on?

If it is, try swapping the hot and cold hoses over on the washing machine end and check if you now only get cold water entering the machine.

(Turn off the outlet taps and then get ready to drain the hoses into a bucket to minimize the amount of water still left in the hoses, from spilling onto the floor as you unscrew the hoses from the machine. Don’t forget to turn on the taps again after you’ve re connected the hoses to the opposite inlets (i.e. hot to cold and cold to hot) on the machine) ;-)

Also check that the filter in the washing machine end of the cold water hose is not blocked and stopping the supply of cold water.

If you only get cold water entering the machine with the hoses swapped over then most likely there is a problem with the cold water inlet solenoid in the washing machine.

What is the model number of the washer?

I will check this out when I get home. Thank you!

That said, because I'm not home, I don't know the model number. I will probably not get home until late today, so I'll check in the morning.

Hi,

No worries.

The model number was only needed to help find the correct replacement part for you if it turns out that the solenoid is the problem.

Cheers.

It's the 80 series, but let me tell you what just happened. I unscrewed the hot and cold hookups and switched them. The hot and the cold both ran just fine. I switched them back and I'm able to get both hot, cold, and warm, but not in the proper places (hot ran on the cold setting and vice versa). I'm going to run everything to see if there's any rhyme or reason and, if so, I can work with that.

Jayeff (JF?), thank you so much for your help! I will be in touch if I need anything further.

Do you just do this because you're kind? Do you get paid? I'd like to thank you somehow.

Hi,

Well done, you're one of the few to figure it out (or at least mention it). JF is correct ;-)

If it works OK after restoring it back to normal (verify that you have got the appropriate hoses going to the correct inlets) check if anything fell on the floor where you unscrewed the hoses. There may have been a blockage (lump of sludge perhaps) in the filter which dropped out as the hose was removed from the fitting

Don't know about being kind ;-)

Everybody who answers (and anybody can answer) on ifixit is a volunteer, i.e. unpaid

Just getting responses that the problem may have been solved (or even not solved so I can maybe figure out something else) is enough for me. It is surprising how many people ask for help and after being answered do not respond further, one way or the other, which can be a bit frustrating at times.

Good luck and Thank You!
