Trackpad not working, keyboard erratic

My mid 2014 13" macbook pro (retina) has been acting really weird.

Two days ago, after I powered it up, the mouse started going crazy, moving all over the place, and eventually stopped moving, and my trackpad hasn't worked ever since. I'm using an USB mouse which works flawlessly.

My keyboard is also strange ever since, often not registering my key presses. After searching several forums, I found some users who reported this happening when their battery started swelling, but my trackpad still clicks fairly normally, which didn't happen in some of the cases I've seen. My battery is infact in 'Replace Soon' condition, with 1200 cycles. I've posted a screenshot of CoconutBattery bellow. I've ruled out sending it to Apple, since they charge me 300€ because they have to replace the entire bottom frame.

I'm thinking about ordering a battery from iFixit. Do you think this might fix my issue? Do I also need to replace the trackpad/keyboard cable? Any experience regarding similar situations is highly appreciated.

Your battery is running beyond its lifespan (1000 cycles)! I would replace it ASAP.

@danj Do you think the trackpad and keyboard problem is related to the battery?

I would start with replacing it. Then see how it goes.

Before you order anything the first thing you should do is inspect the battery cells visually.

A quick inspection will make it easier to determine whether it’s an obvious issue such as the battery cells swelling.

Here’s a guide on how to lift the bottom cover:

Can you confirm this is the correct MacBook model? Input your serial number on the EveryMac look up in here to confirm:

If you do plan on doing a battery replacement, test the keyboard and trackpad before you install the battery (with the adhesive).

The trackpad cable (which actually runs under the battery under a metal plate) is separate from the keyboard cable. I would suspect that there may be liquid damage inside the MacBook if they are both having issues, you’ll have to open it up and check the Liquid Damage Indicators which are little circle stickers that are initially white and turn red when they are in contact with high humidity or liquid.

Edit: After doing some reading online about this issue, if this is a Late 2015 model it may be actually the trackpad cable being at fault if it’s the cable that runs over the battery and not under the battery.

Thanks for the suggestion. I find it unlikely that it's liquid damage, since I didn't spill anything, and this happened overnight. I'll remove the back cover and check if the battery really is swollen.
