No power on Sony model DVP-SR510H DVD player

Push the power button, no power ‘on’ light. Made sure it was properly plugged into the surge protector strip, check. Make sure the strip was plugged into an outlet and the power is on, check. Unplug it from the power strip and connect it to another wall outlet in the kitchen that has power. Push the power button, still no power light. Is it because these are not expensive that they die so easily? Can I fix it?

Hi,

Unfortunately as there is no service manual or teardown guide available online (or at least none that I could find), I can only suggest that you open the unit and check if there is any obvious damage to any components (e.g. burnt, stressed etc) or perhaps even if there is a blown fuse in the power supply section of the player etc. (if there is a fuse and it is blown be aware that there is always a reason that a fuse blows).

Be safety aware and ensure that the power is totally disconnected from the device before you attempt to open it.

If you are uncertain as to whether a component looks faulty, take some close up pictures and post back here and hopefully someone can help you further.

Here's how to do this Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

There is a difference between not turning on and no power at all. Do you have a standby light on the front when the unit is plugged in? If not, then I would first verify that the fuse is OK. If it is blown, try another. I suspect though, if the fuse is blown, a replacement will likely blow right away too. If you DO have the standby light, maybe the power switch (tact switch) is defective. While rare, I have seen these go bad in the past.

RE: no service manual. These units are considered “throw-away” units and are not repaired even under warranty, but replaced. Similar units that I have seen in the past, have either bad optics or bad power supply circuits. based upon the description above, I would suspect a bad component or two in the power supply.

I bought this model and it came today. I plugged it in and pushed the power button. No light came on anywhere. that I could see.

BUT, the disc tray opened when I pushed the eject button, and closed again after l inserted a DVD. So I assumed either 1, a burnt bulb or 2, no light there at all, by design. (If 2, then weird!) I watched the whole movie without a problem. Later on, after dark I found the light , working as it should. Go figure...
