Can I remove screen block to my Asus G74SX?

Hello everybody !

May be a strange question for here but I take my chance.

I got an old Asus G74SX who still works very well but since 2011 I got new laptop who are easiest to move, to be nomad.

Still it works and it still pretty descent for gaming or make a powerfull media center. Except it's pretty big with the screen. So my question. Can I remove all the screen block and still have my computer working well ? Just using the HDMI output to get my video signal on my TV screen.

Hi,

You should be able to but be aware that there will be a loss of some features if you do unless you make provision for them

The webcam, microphone and most probably the WiFi (not sure on this but you will find out if the antennae are in the lid, if so you will have to re-route them if you wish to keep the WiFi) will all be affected if you remove the lid.

Also, again not sure but you may not be able to see the BIOS screen as the external monitor may not display until the laptop boots into Windows. You have to check the options in BIOS to see if using an external monitor is an option on startup.

Perhaps it may be wise to just disconnect the video cable from the motherboard and see if it works as you want before totally removing the screen etc.

The computer will be connect via ethernet to the web so no problem with wi-fi.

But the access to BIOS can be helpful some times. So I will check.
