Why Samsung galaxy tab a 10.1 2016 goes black some time

My tablet was working fine. I used it for like 15-20 minutes like I do many times during the day to check on stuff. But this time when I came to use it again then all I see is black screen. The home button and lock key is not working. I tried calling on the tablet and its still ringing that means it on. Its just not giving display. Is it possible that if something keeps on touching the tablet screen for long time may cause this ? because I saw a pillow was our the tablet(We have very light weight pillow). This happen one time before as well. That time I slept while using the tablet and in morning it was not working. Then all of a sudden it started working on its own(It tried some volume up power tricks but it looked like it failed so I just left it. When I get back it was working normally. I played games and stuff as well and all worked great. What could be the reason ?

Does it ever quit while using it? It sounds like it wont wake from sleep mode . When this happens there are two possible solutions that I know of. One is to hold the power button down continuously until the tablet shuts down and reboots . This can take a minute or more. The second it to open the tablet and disconnect the battery then reconnect the battery after a minute or so then reassemble and reboot . There is a troubleshooting guild here on ifixit that may help in the future , common problems and there fixes

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Troubleshooting

Hope this helps

Thankyou for your answer. I tried Power + Volume down(As mentioned on samsung website here (http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/support/skp...). After about 8 second it does vibrate. I believe that means that it is turning off but after that nothing really happens when I try to power it up again. Looks like it gets on again without display. Its a brand new tablet 2016 version bought in september and I cant find its disassembly guide anywhere including youtube. Unlike Galaxy note tablet its really hard to see where the join between backcover and screen really is.

- de

If its that new maybe check to see if its still under warranty. Don't open it if it is. Return it to Samsung and have them take a look or call customer service

- de

Yes I guess thats what needs to be done. It is not under local warranty. Because I bought it when I was in US last month. But I will get it checked from local samsung service center here. I saw another person on ifixit with almost same issue as mine with the same tablet. Hopefully someone will find a fix that dont require expensive service center visits.

- de

Samsungs warranty should be worldwide

- de

EVVVVERYTHING described above is EXACTLY what I'm experiencing AS WELL !

I had this problem on my Galaxy Tab S2. I held down the on/off button and simultaneously held down both sides of the volume control button. After about 10 seconds the screen came back on in re-boot mode.45ong

Yes work for me as well thank you thank you thank you

- de

this worked for me too xd non violent solution =)

- de

the sad: to know that a so expensive device is produced with that kind of bugs

the happy: to know that this single trick works like a charm

- de

This worked for me, holding the power button and both volume button at the same time. Thank you.

Oh my. If this fixes my problem I'll be so happy. I bought a replacement Tab 3 and it goes black also, often when adjusting volume. After pushing the start button, it requires a very hard pressure swipe to restart, then often goes black again immediately. I will be thrilled if this is the problem. So far it seems good, outside of the case (away from the magnet.) Easy fix. I'll try it for awhile.

- de

Dude you are so right, thanks ever so much

- de

Wow I never.thought. of that ah now HOw do I get back off lol

Where is this magnet located on the cover on a Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 2014. I have replaced both ribbons and the battery. I have sound and the buttons work but the screen stays black. No warranty on this one. Any help would be appreciated a lot.

This solution fixed the problem with my 2 sons Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) models I bought one month ago. I took away 10 small magnets on each device with a Sharp knife and the problem is gone for 2 weeks now.

Many THANK'S to Mohamad.

I've got this same, hear volume up and down but black screen. I'm opened tablet and check the tape for LCD. Tape has two connection. One is on main board , I'm open up the connector, remove tape and put it back. Still black screen. Then I removed battery. Lift gently plastic on both sides of another end of tape, then used bend copper wire to open connector, slide tape out and back in, close connector. Plug battery back on and press power on, and screen back to life.

How to disassemble tablets and access the battery

- de

You can watch YouTube, there is about open different model of Samsung tab but work this same. You must put hard and thin piece of plastic (corner of bank card or something similar) between screen frame and back cover. Around screen glass you'll see tiny frame, then is small step to cover that is place to press plastic . Be very gentle, start from longer edge and keep going around. Battery is under plastic frame. Just unscrew tiny screws and unclip ribbon. But before removing battery check first connection . Could be that. Just unclipped and clip back ribbon. On ribbon are letters LCD, this the one. If that don't work then remove battery and try with other end. I'm used small square hole to open clip. Bend small wire and put through . Then put it back and clip back. Take extra care to not break ribbon. Then just connect battery and check. If work put all together. I give 2 extra straps of isolation tape to stick ribbon to battery. Sorry for my English

- de

Thanks for the help. I opened the back cover as you described, disconnected battery and connecting the battery. After that, the tablet worked fine. Made in 15 min

Happy to help.

Lego tool works too. :)

Opening back cover should not be an option to fix this ! Samsung should fix it for free or send replacement

My screen went blank twice on two occasions and both times I've removed the screen tape connection and battery. Remove battery first didn't work. It would appear on both occasions the tab had been dropped or banged and the battery seams to pull the screen tape from the connector because I could see the line to which the tape position should be and it wasn't true to the connector. P.s used finger nails to gently remove back cover.

My new 10.1 tablet was doing the same, mostly when I turned the tablet sideways .. BUT it was only doing it when the tablet was in my leather cover, it works fine without the cover and the black screen problem has gone . Please remove your cover if you have one and see it it solves the problem for you too .

Works for a few minutes so far. I hope this is the fix for what I've struggled with for months. We'll see. Maybe the magnet was interfering.

I have similar experience: it started a few months ago on my Tab A6 (a.k.a 10.1 2016) when a leather cover was mounted with intermittent display black-outs. I removed the cover and the problem went away. For a few months.

Now the screen is black and there's nothing I can do to get it working. The tablet is alive ... it makes healthy sound when I plug the charger. It also behaves right when plugged to a computer with USB cable (the screen is still black though).

As it still under warranty, it's going back for a repair.

So the tab came back from the repair shop. According to the paperwork, they fixed display connector and parts list includes two pieces of some kind of tape (whatever that could be), each priced at 20 EUR. It was free of charge as the tablet is still under warranty.

Of course, they did factory reset and (re)install software. Which was not needed, obvously SOP is to reset and upgrade SW and only then check for HW defects. Sigh.

Having this problem screen blackouts for @15 seconds then comes on but looks like night display you see on Google maps etc after restart it's back to normal till the next time. It also had started giving me error messages these 2 are the most frequent ones"Google has stopped working" "Google maps has stopped working" these errors come up sometimes 20 times in a row and at anytime even if I'm just doing offline stuff and I figured uninstall maps but didn't fix anything anyone have any ideas this tablet is a Samsung Galaxy tab 4 mini 7" model SM-T330NU android version 5.1.1 so if anyone can help who has had the problem or knows the fix please let me know I don't want the possible scenarios or the try this to see if it works I have done 100 different what it's already and really dont want to try anymore I'm not trying to be snooty or rude just really fed up with this BS and Samsung techs have made it worse by not being any help what so ever Thank you in advance for even just taking your time to read my sob story lol

I am on my 4th Samsung 10.1" SM-T580. All have had the same problem of going black. Sometimes when I have it in the case but it has also happened out of the case. I live in Canada but purchased it at Sams Club on a trip back through the US. I returned the first 3 but now I'd like a fix. When it goes black I can tip it in several ways it eventually comes back on. This is a pain. The customer support says they've not heard of this problem. My husband has a Samsung SM-T350 and has never had this problem. I brought it to my local Samsung support store but they are unable to send it for repair because it is a US modle! I'd like a permanant fix that doesn't include taking it apart.

Our son's Tab A 10.1 (2016 ed) went black screen on us after a short fall: I could track its position with Device Manager, it made sounds when triggered, but otherwise nothing showed on screen. No variant of rebooting fixed the problem.

It took me a few tries, but I managed to

A) Turn it off (Vol- and Power pressed while plugged in) and got no fix in Device Manager. Great, at least it's off before rummaging around inside it.

B) Get the cover off following ifixit instructions (though it was tighter than implied, and actually took me the best part of an hour, for fear of breaking the screen). Reemplazo de la batería del Samsung Galaxy Tab A

C) Disconnect and reconnect the battery and the two screen connectors (one of them at both ends) using https://youtu.be/1mFwNHSeObE

D) Turn it on, and the screen was working again. One of the ZIF connectors must have been shaken loose, even though the tablet has a thick foam protector.

As for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition, I think I've found the culprit. I had the same issue where the screen went black but removing the back reattaching the screen cable fixed it temporarily.

What I did to fix was go to "Lock screen" setting and set the "Lock automatically" to "immediately".

Ever since I have done it, the issue has gone. It seems there's a software issue but god only knows.

I hope this solution works for others too.

Hold power button, down arrow and home all at once. Give it up to 10 seconds. It will restart and screen comes back.

One of the solutions offered above worked for me. I held down the off/on/wake up switch and held the volume up and down both. It did turn back on the screen. The tablet was on before this because I was getting email notifications and the camera button would annunciate. This began when I would leave it in the bed when I slept. I know I didn’t roll over on it but it must affect in is some way. I knew I was being careless. Thanks for the help!
