might be a LCD cable not plugged in all the way.

How many amps does it draw from the usb charger? Check with a multimeter by splitting either +power or -power and put the probes on the resulting 2 ends of wire.

Yea, as @David said check all the connections and reseat them. Does it get recognized by a PC?

I had to press hard, then harder still, It would now appear that the power switch has failed, is it difficult to replace it
