Background
Released by Uniden, the Uniden D1688 is a phone with a main corded base that comes with a cordless accessory handset as well. This phone set is capable of basic features like Caller ID and call waiting, as well as having a few more advanced ones like chain calling and having a silent mode. Also, it is capable of connecting to an intercom system in order to broadcast messages. In addition to serving as cradle for the corded handset, the base also functions as an answering machine.
This phone is simply a basic office phone, conditioned to be used either at home or at a business, having enough features to efficiently function at either location. The set can come with a certain number of cordless handsets, determined by the number appended to the end of the model bought by the consumer. For example, the model number "D1688-11" comes with 11 cordless handsets. 12 is the maximum supported by the unit.

The model number (D1688) can be found underneath the removable battery of the portable handheld unit.
