Nikon Coolpix S5300 Troubleshooting

The camera will not respond or show any sign of powering up.

If the battery of your camera is dead, remove the old battery by opening the battery compartment and replacing the battery with a working one. To open the compartment located on the bottom right of the camera, first slide the battery door towards you with a downward pressure in the direction of the arrow on the door and the compartment will open. The orange release lever found on the inside of the door will release the battery when pressed upwards and the battery can be removed and replaced.

If the camera isn’t turning on, and you have tried to replace the battery, there may be an issue with the power button. Try to press in the power button in, and if you don’t feel the button press down, take a small toothpick like object and run it around the seam of the button, in attempt to remove any unwanted gunk that may have been blocking the button from functioning. If this doesn’t work, you may need to contact Nikon for repair.

The screen is not displaying anything or it is cracked.

If the LCD display on your camera is cracked, this could hinder your abilities to utilize the camera to its full function. Please refer to the replacement guide “Nikon Coolpix S5300 Screen Replacement Guide” for further instructions.

If you have an error displaying the memory card is locked, you need to unlock it before you can take pictures. First, open the battery/card compartment that located on the bottom right of the camera. To do this, slide the card door towards you with a downward pressure in the direction of the arrow on the door and the compartment will open. Remove the memory card. On the side of the card, there is a small switch that locks or unlocks the card. Push the switch to the unlock position, and replace it in the camera.

If you have a “lens error” message displayed on the LCD screen of your camera, the lens unit may be blocked from extending. If the camera is struggling to extend the lens, check for any obvious obstruction, turn the camera off and then on again. If that doesn’t work, remove and recharge the battery and then retest. If none of these work, the situation may require that the camera be sent to Nikon for repair.

The battery is not charging or holding a charge

Make sure nothing is jammed in the charging port.

Make sure the cable is plugged in properly, and there is no damage in the cable.

Make sure that the outlet you're using is functioning, and if it's not working properly try a couple different ones.

If the battery is properly connected, and still does not charge, the battery itself could be defective. Changing the battery would fix this.

The device is having issues connecting to a wireless network

Make sure the Wi-Fi button is on.

Enter phone settings, go into Wi-Fi, and see if you have your Camera selected.

Sometimes the quality of pictures can be attributed to a multitude of things, try the following steps to ensure better quality photos.

Confirm this setting is turned on. Make sure flash is on in a dark setting. Can also try using a tripod to ensure stability.

Some modes do not require a flash such as Flower, Video, or Landscape.

Noise in an image is usually caused by the flash reflecting of particles in the air or when a picture is underexposed/Overexposed.

Solutions:

• Select noise reducing mode
• Use flash/Turn of flash
• Specify low ISO sensitivity setting

Solutions

• Move closer to subject because it was originally out of flash range
• Confirm that the flash window is not covered or blocked
• Select Backlight Scene Mode

Solutions

• Turn off flash
• Adjust exposure settings
