Monitor is blank

Camera is off

Press the on/off button on top of the camera to turn it on.

Battery is exhausted

Use the multi-connector port (labeled AV out) to charge the camera.

Battery is bad

Nikon indicates the battery should last for around 290 shots per charge. If your camera is loosing battery charge much faster, it is likely your battery is bad. Follow the replace battery guide to fix this problem.

Standby mode for saving power

If the camera is in Standby mode, press the shutter-release button halfway.

Camera and computer are connected via USB cable

The camera screen will be disabled when connected to the computer and must be unplugged before it can be used.

Camera and TV are connected via audio/video cable

The camera screen will be disabled when connected to the TV and must be unplugged before it can be used.

Camera Turns Off Without Warning

Battery is low

Charge the battery by connecting the charging cord to the multi-connector port labeled "AV out" on the side of the camera.

Battery is bad

Camera has turned off automatically to save power

The camera will turn off automatically if not used for a long period of time. Press the on/off button to turn it back on.

Battery is cold

On cold days the battery loses a great amount of charge, and when the temperature goes below 32 degrees Fahrenheit it will not charge.

Camera Won't Take Pictures

Battery is dead

Charge the battery and try again.

Date and Time on Display Are Incorrect

When the date and time are not set, the words "Date not set" will blink during shooting.

All Settings Have Been Reset

If both the battery and the backup battery have been depleted, then the settings will all return to their factory defaults. Your preferred settings will have to be entered manually.
