Laptop Can Not Connect To Wireless Internet
Laptop can not find and/or connect to wireless networks.
Outdated Wireless Network Interface Card Software
If you cannot connect to wireless devices, your wireless network interface card (WNIC) may be using out of date software. To update the software, right click the Windows icon and click Device Manager. Scroll down to Network Adapter and click the arrow to expand the menu. Right click on the device that includes Network Adapter in its name and click Update Driver Software. In the pop-up window, click Search automatically for updated driver software. This will search the manufacture's website for any software updates for the WNIC and install them automatically. Close all windows when finished. If new updates were found, restart your computer for the updates to take effect.
Wireless Network Interface Card Is Faulty
If your laptop does not connect to wireless networks but you have other devices that can connect, your wireless network interface card may not be working properly. Unfortunately, the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 does not have a replaceable WNIC. It is attached to the motherboard. You can learn how to replace the motherboard here.
Touchscreen Registers "Ghost Touches"
White circles randomly appear on the screen and indicate the screen has been touched, even when you are not actually touching the screen.
Touchscreen Is Not Calibrated
Open up the start screen and type "calibrate." Select the Calibrate the screen for Pen or Touch Input option. In the Tablet PC Settings window, make sure the display tab is selected then select the Calibrate button. Starting in the upper-left corner, use your finger or a stylus to tap each intersection as highlighted by cross-hairs. After touching all 16 calibration points, click OK.
Device Requires Firmware Update
If the touchscreen is properly calibrated, your laptop may require a firmware update. This firmware update is only for laptops that have LG screens. To check if you have an LG screen, right click the Windows button in the bottom left corner of the screen and click Device Manager. Scroll down to Monitors and click the arrow to expand the menu. Double click Generic PnP Monitor and click on the Details tab. Under the property heading, click the drop down arrow and select Hardware IDs. If the value says Monitor\LG****, then proceed with the firmware update. Before updating your firmware, ensure your laptop’s battery is at 100%. Once the battery is fully charged, unplug your adapter. During the update, remember to not touch the screen as it could mess with the update itself. First, download the firmware update here. Next, run the program. After the update finishes, the program will state it was a success at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions on screen. Press any key to continue and then press any key to exit.
Laptop Freezes Frequently
The laptop freezes and becomes inoperable until powered off and then back on.
Laptop Is Overheating
One of the biggest causes for computer freezes is when the computer becomes overheated. To avoid this, never have more programs running than needed at any given time. For example, try to not have multiple games running or too many tabs in one internet browser. If the problem is not from too many programs at once, you may need to clean or replace your cooling fan. Both fixes can be found here.
Multiple Viruses
If you are not running an excessive number or programs at once and the cooling fan is clean and/or new, you may have multiple viruses infecting your computer.
- Apply the latest patches and security updates available for your system. Install, schedule and regularly update your antivirus software.
- Click Start, select All Programs, select Symantec Client Security, then click Symantec AntiVirus.
- Click File.
- Click Schedule Updates.
- Click the Enable Scheduled Automatic Update checkbox, then click Schedule to select how often and when you want the definition update to occur.
- Click OK and then it will ask to click OK one more time.
- Set your browser's security settings to high (for Internet Explorer).
- Click Tools and select Internet Options.
- Click on Privacy.
- Move the slider to High Security. Then click Apply and OK (note: Although safer on High, some Web sites will not work correctly with this setting. For Web sites you trust, you may need to temporarily set this setting lower (e.g. to Medium) in order for the Web site's cookies to work correctly).
- Close and restart your browser for the new settings to take effect.
- Clear your startup folder of unnecessary, or undesired items to increase your system's performance
Audio Distortion
The audio comes through as static or does not play at all.
Loose Headphone Jack
If the problem occurs when listening through your headphones, the audio jack or your headphones may be faulty. Audio that is not consistent usually points to a loose audio jack. The audio jack is connected to the USB port fixture. Learn how to replace it here.
Faulty driver
If the distortions occur while listening through the speakers, you may have a corrupt driver. To update the software, right click the Windows icon and click Device Manager. Scroll down to Audio inputs and outputs and click the arrow to expand the menu. Right click on the Speakers and click Update Driver Software. In the pop-up window, click Search automatically for updated driver software. This will search the manufacture's website for any software updates for the speakers and install them automatically. Close all windows when finished. If new updates were found, restart your computer for the updates to take effect.
Faulty Speakers
If the problem occurs through your laptop's native speakers, you may have broken or damaged speakers. Learn how to replace them here.
Connected USB Devices Are Not Recognized
Devices connected to the laptop via USB ports do not work.
Devices Are Faulty
If you have some devices that work when plugged into the USB ports but others do not, the devices themselves may be faulty. For example, if a wireless mouse works but a wireless keyboard does not, your wireless keyboard may be the problem. Always check to make sure wireless devices have fresh batteries and are turned on.
USB Drivers Are Outdated
If your USB drivers are outdated, they may not work as intended. To ensure drivers are up to date, right click the Windows icon and click Device Manager. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and click the arrow to expand the menu. Right click on each device and click Update Driver Software. In the pop-up window, click Search automatically for updated driver software. This will search the manufacture's website for any software updates for the USB drives. Close all windows when finished. If new updates were found, restart your computer for the updates to take effect.
USB Ports Are Faulty
If no device works when plugged into a particular USB port, the port may be faulty and in need of replacing. Learn how to replace it here.
Battery Is Dead Or Not Holding A Charge
Laptop does not power on or only stays powered for short periods of time.
Faulty Charger
First, plug your charger into the laptop. Look at the charger and see if the light is on while plugged into the wall and the computer. If the light is not on, your charger is most likely the problem. You need to look for a replacement charger at this point.
Faulty Battery
If your charger is plugged into the laptop and the charger's indicator light is on, then the battery is probably the cause of the problem. For a guide to change out the battery, click here.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 for my daughter 18 months ago. Suddenly the motherboard went out and I have to pay $300-$400 repair! I have seen several other people posting different places with the same problem. Before I pay for the repair, I want too know if there is a weakness with this motherboard? Do you have any thoughts?

Not an expert but for that much money I would just get her a new computer. Mine just died as well. Never buying Lenovo again.

The motherboard in mine died, but it was the charger that killed it - it was turning off randomly, eventually figured out it was the charger - moving the cable in a certain place would cause it to short out, I ordered a new charger but the MB died before it arrived!
A year later found a new MB on aliexpress ($200AU), installed it myself.. Paired with the new charger so far so good.. Now I just have to get the touchscreen working again, think I may have damaged the connection darn!

Hello, I purchased a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter, but nothing pops up on either my TV monitor or laptop. There doesn’t seem to be any recognition that there is a micro HDMI port on the laptop at all. Is there a way to check if it works?
